Robbie Lawler on The Roman Show
A few years ago, the UFC’s welterweight champion Robbie Lawler (25-10) was considered an entertaining fighter.
Last year, he became more than just an entertaining fighter because he defeated Johny Hendricks to conquer the welterweight title by split decision. Now 33 years-old, he has won six of his last seven fights.

In July, he is ready to defend his title for the first time against an old foe, Rory MacDonald (18-2). The fight will be the co-main event and will be part of the UFC 189 fight card scheduled for July 11. The Roman Show caught up with Lawler prior to his fight in the summer.
Lawler has been on hiatus using his time to recover and heal his body.
“It’s been great,” he said. “I’ve been working out but it was my time to recover it was time to get better. I got to work on a lot of things so my body is able to recover. I am mentally prepared. I am excited to showcase what I
worked on.”
Both faced each other back in 2013. Lawler defeated MacDonald by split decision.
“He is always evolving and working on things. He is mentally strong,” he said. “He has a good camp around him. I have to be ready for him.”
Lawler trains with American Top Team, while MacDonald trains in Canada’s Tristar gym.
“Rory is a heck of a competitor, but I have been working on my body,” he said. “I am
going to showcase it.”
