Miami, FL- With the news of future soccer legend Lionel Messi landing with the Inter-Miami club, the magic city is welcoming another well-known name in the sports world, Konishiki Yasokichi, a legendary sumo wrestler.
Konishiki will be hosting Sumo and Sushi taking place June 9-11 at The Hangar at Regatta Harbour, 3385 Pan American Dr, Miami, 33133. Tickets on sale now, www.sumoandsushi.com.
To most sumo is a sport not familiar in Miami that is why Konishiki says people will walkout of the event with tons of knowledge and appreciation.
“People think it is just two big guys hitting each other sumo is the only sport in the world that doesn’t have a weight class, the different techniques. I talk about a mixture of the budo karate, aikido, wrestling and all the moves. Before there was mma there was sumo of 1,000 of years,” he said.
Sam Minkoff, president of SE Productions, says the event is more than just entertrainment.
He talks a lot about this concept called edutainment where and truly is what is happening in Sumo and Shushi, it is not intended to be a replica traditional sumo tournament. It is an opportunity for our guests to learn about the history and culture of sumo and get to witness live matches. You’ll hear form Konishiki about his incredible career,” he said.
Konishiki says there’s more to the sport.
“When you have a hundred years of sumo experience, we are not guys that love sumo or practice it as a hobby we are original professional ex sumo wrestlers. This is an great opportunity to get out and it is edutainment I can guarantee you when you walk out of the venue you’ll be more educated about sumo you’ll going to love sumo more because of the stories we tell you of things that happen in sumo life,” he added.
There will be two showings a day. For information, visit www.sumoandsushi.com.
