It has been a life long dream for Kamaru Usman to get a crack at UFC gold and he has a shot this Saturday and when he faces the current welterweight champion in the UFC 235 co-headliner at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Roman Show caught up with Usman at a recent Titan FC event where he serves as the commentator.
“I am feeling good,” he said. “This is what I said I would do when I first got into the sport. I said I would be a champion. March 2 is my opportunity to be the champion. I can’t wait.”
Both have been cool and professional with each other, but Saturday gold is on the line changing the whole relationship.
“Tyrone is a well rounded fighter,” he said. “He is an explosive fighter. He is good every where but I believe I am better and on March 2 I get that opportunity to show the world that.”
Usman has fellow welterweights like Stephen Thompson supporting him, but that is something the Nigerian doesn’t cares for.
“I don’t really listen to all of that,” he said. “They can root if they want but they would like to be in that seat. They would like to be the champion. So I am not focused on that. I am focused on the goal I was set from day one, which is become the world champion.”
He said he is not one to be on social media and talk smack.
“That’s not something I like to do on social media. I train and fight. This is what I like to do,” he said.
He also talks about being a play-by-play commentator for Titan FC on UFC Fight Pass and more.
