Jessica Aguilar at the UFC Florida
Jessica Aguilar is ready to prove to the world that she is number one straw weight in the world, but to do so she has to defeat a top ranked fighter in the lion’s day.
Recently UFC signed fighter, Aguilar (19-4) is set for action against Claudia Gadelha (12-1) in Brazil for UFC 190. The winner of the fight is more than likely to fight for the belt against the current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. But before she starts thinking of gold, Aguilar is excited to finally join her dream promotion.
“I am ready to work. I am happy,” she said, during an interview at UFC Fight Night Live in Florida. “I am excited. I am honored to represent the UFC. I am living my dream.”
She was signed with the World Series of Fighting, but she asked for her release after fulfilling her contract. Now she has a chance to prove why she is the best in the UFC.
“I was grateful for the WSOF,” she said. “I needed to fulfill my contract. I knew this wasn’t going anywhere. When they asked me for another fight I asked for my release and they granted that and I am grateful for that.”
Although the UFC created the division after she signed with the UFC, she stayed positive that one day she would land in the promotion.
“I was under contract before the UFC started my division,” she said. “I just had to continued focus do what I had to do and fill the contract. I knew this would be here. It was going to happen. I stayed focus, but I knew I had to finish my contract.”
She says she is a lot stronger in many areas compared to her foe and the champion.
“I think I am a more well-rounded fighter than Claudia and my stand up is stronger,” she said. “I think you’ll be seeing a lot of boxing, ground and wrestling. There will be a lot of back and forth, transition. It’s a great match up. We are more well-rounded. Joanna is stand up but only one dimensional. She has great take down defense.”
But Aguilar took a stab at the champion and how she would face off against her.
“I think she’s a great champion,” she said “She has done her job well. I think it’s a great match up as well. With the right strategy anyone can be beaten.”
