The dream of Geane “La Pulga” Herrera (8-0) of carrying his parent’s country flag of Colombia to the octagon is about to become a reality.
Born in California, but raised in Cali, Colombia, Herrera will face off against Ray (8-1) on the UFC Fight Night 73 fight card Saturday airing on Fox Sports 1 at 10 p.m.
Herrera, who trains in Tampa, says he is honored for the opportunity.
“I want to show the support I have for latinos,” he said. “Everywhere you see there is discrimination. I am here to show that we are people of dreams. We want to do good things.”
For the most part, he has fought in Florida under the RFA banner. The flyweight has competed against the best the state has to offer.
“There is good talent in Florida,” he said. Many are in the UFC. I have competed against the best flyweights. The only one I didn’t get to compete is Alexis Vila. Maybe I’ll fight him in the UFC one day.”
The undefeated fighter said Borg isn’t someone he is worried about. Borg has a 2-1 UFC record.
“I have fought many like him,” he said. “He doesn’t empress me for nothing. “I bring something no one has seen or has had. I can’t wait to show what I will bring. He is like everyone else.”
