Three members of the Canadian heavy metal band Slagduster are bringing back the sounds of stoner rock and grunge rock.
Shane Sherman and two other members of Slackduster got together to make up BADGUYSWIN, who recently dropped their new album Cowards.
The Canadian joined The Roman show to talk about record.
“We got together ten years ago,” he said. “We’ve been working on that and touring pushing that forever. We got burnt out. We were doing that forever. We were doing different things some songs were complicated. We decided to put it in on the back burner and do a musical group and something different.”
“Cowards” is an album that is a heavy and hooky modern take on a classic sound with influences that are everything 90’s in grunge, stoner, alternative, and punk. It was conceived organically, performed and recorded DIY style at the home studio of drummer Zak Waterlow with mastering by Brock McFarlane of CPS studios in Vancouver.
For Sherman, performing with BADGUYSWIN is a different route.
“It’s a totally different animal,” he said. “I still play guitar but am doing a lot of different stuff. I am not screaming and delivering my voice harmonically. We delivered riffs at different speeds; these are more about feel than playing properly.”
Since the drop of the album, the response from music fans has been positive.
“I think we are getting a lot of praise for playing the nineties sound, not a lot of bands are doing it,” he said.
An artist, Sherman also talks about creating the album cover and more on this week’s episode of The Roman Show.
