Age and injuries are simply challenges for 62-year-old Stuart Warren Dansby. who will debut Saturday for 305 Fights at 7 p.m.
Dansby will battle Daniel Ponce, 32, in an amateur kickboxing bout. In the first bout, Danby came out short.
Blessed
A grateful Dansby is excited to compete as he has a couple of fights under belt.
“I am blessed to do what I do to have a good team and to be able to step in the cage,” he told The Roman Show. “It is appreciation and gratitude.”
At 47, Dansby ventured into kickboxing after being an avid weightlifter.
“I lifted weights my whole life,” he said. “I said ‘hey am an athlete how tough could this be’? I say that with the biggest smile on my face because it was the stupidest thing I can ever think of.”
He is not the only person to compete in his 60’s, Ann Perez competed at 68 back in 2016.
TRAINING
Freedom fighters and world Muay Thai champion Gregory Cheetah Choplin are responsible for training Stuart.
“I am blessed to do what I do to have a good team and to be able to step in the cage. It is appreciation and gratitude,” he said.
THE FUTURE
Plagued with injuries that medically won’t allow him to compete, he pushes the envelop by competing.
“According to my surgeon, medically speaking he didn’t know how I was able to walk on that knee, but he told him to continue doing what he is,” he said referring to the Muay Thai training.
As far as his future, he doesn’t know what will happen after the fight, but one thing is certain, he will continue to be a student of Muay Thai. To him, it is life.
“You can look at it as obstacles or as challenges,” he said.
