2019 Florida MMA Awards to show appreciation to the state’s MMA community

The 2019 Florida MMA Awards will honor those in the community who helped promote the sport.

The Roman Show spoke to MMA ambassador and Florida MMA Awards creator Frank Morejon prior to the awards show taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami and Convention Center, 711 NW 72 Avenue, Sunday February 24, 2019. The event is sold out, but can be viewed on Facebook Live at 5 p.m. Click here for details.

“The whole point of this is that people who have put their time and work in this year to promote the sport itself so the UFC could take notice and say we’ll go back even though they said they would never go back,” he said. “They said it was the worst numbers they had. But believe it is the push that the community in Florida is doing everyone else is taking notice. Everyone knows this is a hub for fighters.”

He later added, “The Florida MMA Awards is a way to say thank you to all of those who continue to promote.”

The last Florida MMA Awards took place back in 2012 and 2013. Morejon assured that the awards ceremonies will be an annual event.

He also shared different ways next year’s awards will be categorized. He said there will be more individuals involved with the process.

“We are creating a panel of five people who will sit on a committee. We will follow every fight and every promoter,” he said.
